Ginger Ninja!

Hello my lovely readers! Hello fall!

M and I are both fighting a cold. Me for almost 2 weeks now, M's started yesterday and I guess he will be ok by tomorrow. He is like that and I wish that was me.... I stayed in bed 90% of the time on the past 2 weekends, and after work just had dinner and than back to bed with a hot water bottle.
Since I really finally want to be healthy again, we bought our secret weapon yesterday. We usually have it at home, but during the colder months, I always want to make sure I have enough of it in my pantry. What is the secret weapon?

Ginger!

I know, I know, it´s not a secret. But maybe some of you don´t know how ninjaresque (nice made up word!) ginger actually is:
"Ginger is one the foods with the highest content of antioxidants. Not only does it act as a natural antihistamine and a mild decongestant, it is also great for sore throat. The herb promotes the release of bile from gallbladder for people suffering from gallstones. Ginger may also decrease joint pain from arthritis, and blood thinning and cholesterol lowering properties that may make it useful for treating heart disease.
There was one time when I had problems with a swollen lymph node in my neck, and I took ginger tea, and within minutes of drinking it, it took away the inflammation and allowed me to swallow again."
What we do is, drink it as a tea:
"Ginger tea is a beverage in many countries, made from ginger root. In China, the tea is made by boiling peeled and sliced ginger to which brown sugar is often added. Sliced orange or lemon fruit may also be added to give a flavor. In Korean cuisine, ginger tea is called saenggang cha (생강차). It can be made either by boiling the ginger or by mixing hot water and preserved sweetened ginger. For the latter, sliced ginger root is stored with honey for a few weeks like jam. In Japanese cuisine it is called shōgayu (生姜湯). In Philippine cuisine it is called salabat and served in the relatively cold month of December. From its main ingredient ginger tea derives a flavor that is spicy and stimulating."
I usually just cut the ginger in slices, add boiling water, fresh lemon juice and a little bit of honey. DELICIOUS!

DIY // Coffee Sack Pictures

After my last DIY post about the masking tape picture frames, I got a whole bunch of e-mails asking about the other pictures on my wall. I indeed made them! So here´s a little how-to. All you need is a coffee sack (got this one on eBay), a stretcher frame and a few pins. Here we go:

Any questions? Leave a comment :o)
By the way: This works perfectly with any other fabric as well!

A few minutes ago... I was in the bedroom, changing the sheets.
Then I saw something....

Me: "Baby, can you please come over here for a minute?"
M: "Is it something bad????"

Geeeeez, I felt like a mom when he said that and couldn´t stop laughing!!

Well - for ME it was something bad. I found something like THIS somewhere in the sheets :o/

The picture above is from Pinterest - but I´m sorry to say, what I found looked pretty much like that! I hate socks! Ugh! Especially if they are not my own! And if they are stinky and dirty! :oD

But you know what? I love M anyway! A lot. And the way he said "Is it something baaaad?" made me go over to the kitchen to give him a big fat smooch!

DIY // Washi Masking Tape Kitchen Pimin'

M is at school today - so he won´t be home before 9PM. So what does chickee Anni do when she´s all alone?
  1. cooking dinner I LOVE but M doesn´t like = Pasta with pesto and roasted broccoli.
  2. decorating the kitchen.
Remember, when I was a mystery shopper? I bought some washi masking tape that day. I didn´t use it a lot since then. The only project was this shelf in my kitchen:

It was a plain wooden shelf from IKEA, and I think it turned out pretty nice!

Ok, so today I grapped the washi tape again. This time using it as picture frames! Yes! Picture frames! This is the kitchen wall BEFORE washi tape:

 Empty.....

And here goes the same wall, AFTER washi tape:

Hugh Laurie: The Gun Seller // Currently Reading

To be honest: I just bought that book cause I fell in love with Hugh Laurie the minute I started watching "House".

But this book is just HILARIOUS! The (very british) way he writes seriously is the bomb!

"When Thomas Lang, a hired gun with a soft heart, is contracted to assassinate an American industrialist, he opts instead to warn the intended victim - a good deed that doesn't go unpunished. Within hours Lang is butting heads with a Buddha statue, matching wits with evil billionaires, and putting his life (among other things) in the hands of a bevy of femmes fatales, whilst trying to save a beautiful lady ... and prevent an international bloodbath to boot."
