Eat Local // The Root in Little Rock, AR

The morning after the Rocktoberfest (if you want to know about that event and see me in a Dirndl dress, click HERE) in North Little Rock, me and my friends went to one of THE breakfast spots in town: "The Root - a Local Cafe".

"The Root" is located on
1500 South Main Street
Little Rock, AR,
72202

The hours are:
Tues - Fri 7am - 2:30pm // Saturday 8am - 3:30pm // Sunday Brunch 9am - 2pm

When we got there that Sunday around 9:15am, there was a line in front of the tiny location as usual, but after about 15-20 minutes we were inside and ready to order.

You order at the bar, and you will take a little display with you to your table so they can locate you to bring you your freshly made from scratch breakfast. On each of those little displays they introduce one of the farms/producers.

I ordered eggs & toast, and one pancake. I ended up getting 3, but only paid for one since they got my order wrong. Super nice!! And guess what... I sure was able to finish all 3 pancakes. Plus my eggs & toast. It was DELICIOUS! Oh and don't let the Starbucks mug fool you. They have a weird and funky mixture of coffee mugs, and I bet there's only one of each in there. Love it! You drink your water out of a mason jar.
...which in my opinion is a little out of date since we've all left this mason jar hipster thing far behind us already...? No...? Oh well.

Let me tell you a little something about The Root:
They source absolutely as much as they can from small farms and producers here in Arkansas, which includes 100% of the meat, eggs, and bread they serve, as well as the majority of the vegetables, fruits, nuts, and cheeses.

Here's the "About us" from their website www.therootcafe.com (make sure to visit, and follow their social media accounts as well):
Our mission is to build community through local food. We seek to foster a sense of connectedness among the individuals, families, organizations, and businesses of central Arkansas by offering a focal point for sustainable activities in the area.

We believe that sourcing locally not only supports our state's economy but also makes us better stewards of the environment because of the shorter distance the ingredients have to travel to get to the plate. We firmly believe that it's because we source locally that our food is so delicious. It makes us feel great that The Root supports local Arkansas farmers and producers that we know and love and that we get to showcase those famers who grow this delicious food!

Also, at The Root Cafe, we host a range of activities from workshops, classes, and speakers to music events, hot pepper-eating and beard-growing contests! Through food, education, and community, The Root Cafe is striving to make Little Rock a better place to live by helping to create a more just, sustainable, and delicious food system for central Arkansas.

If you live in Arkansas, or visit my neck of the woods, make sure to

grab some breakfast at The Root! You won't regret it!
