Maurice Braxton (1988, Plainfield, NJ)
is a Visual Artist working both in oil paintings and charcoal drawings. Graduating from Union County College in 2012 with a degree in graphic design Maurice began his career as an artist. As the reality of adulthood quickly hit Maurice responded by doing what he’s accustomed to doing. He used his frustrations and viewpoints on the world around him transitioning them into art.
The subject matter in his oil paintings show representations of everyday situations in society as a whole, but he brings these problematic situations to the viewer in a way where it’s now something beautiful and enticing. He challenges you to open your eyes to new ideologies and come to your own conclusions. His multiple panel pieces allow him to tell narratives through his paintings in a way yet seen before. With what he likes to call his “multi-paneled canvases” he creates narratives through art to leave conversation open for the viewer’s of his art
If you dig deep and attempt to decipher what you’re seeing then you’ll realize that these images cohesively tell a story. Size, color, relevance, and position all play a mega role in how the story is told.
Currently a working artist in New Jersey, Maurice is always venturing out to explore new ground and expand his art to new viewers. His main goal is to both make people feel good and to make a statement a statement that causes people to become more aware of the world around them and not feel uncomfortable about things outside of what they’re use to.
