Paint The Town Pink 5k // Weekend Recap LinkUp

Happy Monday!

A few more days until Halloween - and I didn't even carve a pumpkin yet. At least I've managed to put out 5 decoration items. Yay me! I still have to buy some candy as well. Hopefully there will be a few trick-or-treaters stopping by this year!

I've had another 5k this weekend. This one was the "Paint The Town Pink" 5k in downtown El Dorado, AR. Since my mom passed away cause of breast cancer, and my grandma had colon cancer, (breast)cancer awareness is close to my heart. This run meant a lot to me. It was oficially dedicated to a local cancer victim (#teamcorrie), but I sure dedicated the run to my mom and grandma. I was running for THEM.

The evening before the run was really really emotional for me. I wanted to put a picture of my mom and my grandma on my running shirt. So I went through tons of pictures... and some of the feelings from the past hit me very hard. Seeing pictures of my mom about 6 months before she passed away hurt so so bad. I broke down the second I opened the photo album. She lost so much weight... she looked so fragile and very sick.

Right now I'm sitting here, crying again. I just wish she was still here... It's tough.

I chose a picture of her from a worry free time in the end. Because this is the way I want to always remember her: full of life, love, and happiness!

The run went very well. I wasn't sure how it would go, because of the flu I had not too long ago. But I ended up RUNNING the whole 5k in 33 minutes. Not one second of walking. I made a video and sure took a few pictures. Enjoy!

  2. The pictures that you chose for your shirt are great. I've never thought about doing that - what an amazing way to tribute your loved ones! Looks like the race was a lot of fun for a really wonderful cause.

  4. Prayers as you remember your mom and grandma. I can relate to how you felt seeing those pix of your mom during her battle...my dad died of colon cancer 60 days after being diagnosed and it took me so long to remember him as the big strong man he was instead of how he was then. Way to keep their member alive!
