The Best Way to Clean your Beauty Blender Sponge

Start with wetting the sponge. Here you have two options. Either hold it under warm water or place it in a bowl of warm water. Whatever you chose, make sure that the sponge is soaked for at least 5 minutes. Don’t use any soap and don’t wait for the water to become muddy.

Applying cleanser to the sponge is the next step. You have probably heard about the specially formulated blender sponge cleansers and always can use one of them. Yet, liquid baby shampoo or another organic shampoo is more convenient solution. Just make sure that you don’t use dishwashing liquid, which can harm your skin and damage the sponge.

Rub vigorously the cleanser into the sponge. After you have applied your preferred cleanser on the coated portions, start rubbing gently in circular motions. Do that for not more than a minute. Keep in mind that you need to scrub intensely but cautiously at the same time. The idea is to take all the grime without damaging the sponge. While you are scrubbing, the cosmetics gathered at the base of the sponge will be drawn out, colouring your palm.

After you have cleaned all areas of the sponge, rinse it under warm water and rub the cleanser away with small circular movements. It may take several minutes until the soap is completely removed, so take your time and keep the sponge under running water until all the suds are gone.

It is time to inspect the condition of the sponge Squeeze the water out of it, make sure that it is clear and after that check if the sponge is cleaned properly. In the best case scenario, it should be completely free of dirt. In case there are still some dirty areas, apply more cleanser to the sponge and start rubbing again until they are eliminated.

Remove the moisture of the sponge by squeezing it gently with your hand. Lay dry clean paper towels and roll the sponge over them several times to dry it off. You won’t be able to extract the moisture completely, so put the damp sponge in open air until it is completely dry.

This is a type of deep cleaning that you can use once per month or every time when your sponge is obviously dirty. Yet the best way to maintain this convenient cosmetic tool is to wash it immediately after you have used it. Of course, you don’t need to follow completely the above-stated procedure. Just clean the sponge with warm water and non-harmful cleanser, let it dry completely and pack it correctly.
