Crater of Diamonds State Park // Win a Fashion Backpack! ($249 Value)

We just came back from visiting the only diamond mine in North America open to the public. As you probably know, we are road tripping and backpacking/hiking quite a lot. I've tried my fair share of backpacks, but recently found my new favorite. The best backpack for work and adventure? My pick is: American Shield Backpack.

(I was provided with a free product for my review. All opinions are my own. I would never endorse a product I don't like or believe in.
If you use links in this post, I may earn a commission. Full Disclosure

They sent me the one pictured above a few weeks ago, and it soon became my favorite. It has an inner 15″ laptop compartment, 8 small inner pockets, 1 front pocket, 2 external side pockets, 1 back pocket and 1 strap pocket. Enough room for pretty much everything. The American Shield Granite 25 Backpack I have boasts textile lining and Oxford Fabric, high quality straps, buckles, and zippers built to last.

And you know what? American Shield sent me another fashion backpack YOU can WIN on here! Just enter the Rafflecopter on the bottom of this post for your chance to win.

Back to road tripping. So especially since we remodeled a 1977 Scamp camper, we go see places even more often. Our most recent trip lead us to the Murfreesboro, AR, area. There are two things this small town is famous for: Trout Fishing, and DIAMONDS! Yep, you've read that right: You can find real diamonds in Arkansas.

After a medium successful fishing trip in the morning, I packed water, snacks, and diamond digging essentials (aka plastic containers due to lack of anything else) into my Granite 25 Backpack, and off we went.

The "Crater of Diamonds State Park" is a 911 acre state park in Pike County, Arkansas. The park features a 37.5-acre plowed field, the world's only diamond-bearing site accessible to the public. It's $10.00 for adults, $6.00 for children 6-12. Children 1-6 yr are free. Let me start off by saying: As long as you go in knowing that you will probably not find anything, this is a fun experience ;)!

I love rocks, and I saw a whole bunch of families having a great time searching the eroded surface of a volcanic crater for variety minerals and gemstones – and any rock or mineral you find is yours to keep. You may bring your own mining equipment to search with (no battery-operated or motor driven mining tools allowed), or rent tools from the park (the deposit is a bit pricey). Pretty much everyone said that the most and biggest diamonds were found by just walking around searching the surface, though.

At the visitor center you can view real, uncut diamonds and learn about the area's unique history and geology. At the "Diamond Discovery Center", you can learn more about rocks and minerals found at the park and how to search for diamonds using various techniques.

Did you know that diamonds come in all colors of the rainbow? We've learned that the three colors found here at the Crater of diamonds park are white, brown, and yellow.

Amethyst, garnet, jasper, agate, quartz, and other rocks and minerals naturally occur here. Park staff provide complimentary identification of rocks and minerals found at the park, as well as diamond mining demonstrations and other interpretive programs.

Unfortunately I didn't find a diamond. But I've had a great time and found some other "gems":

And now it's time for you to win your very own American Shield Backpack!
