Thankfulness Thursdays {5}

Sometimes you see some certain things, that will be stuck in your head for a long time. If not forever... One of those things, I saw today.

During my lunch break, I walked over to the bakery. I wanted to get something to eat. When I arrived there, I stopped in front of it since 2 women ran out, waving and yelling something. I looked through the windows of the bakery, and then I saw it. A woman, laying on the floor, looking more dead than alive. And a man, performing CPR. I heard the ambulance coming. So I kept on walking. Knowing the situation is under control and there are people taking care.

I was in shock after I saw that. I might see it in my dreams again tonight. I´ve seen CPR way too often in my life I think, even though I´m not a doc/nurse/paramedic. And I was the one saving a woman´s life performing CPR to her as well:

A couple of months ago (it might have been last year around that time), I was in my old hometown, walking home to my sister´s place after a night out with my friends. I don´t know why (my buddy God might have had something to do with that though...), but I didn´t take the straight way home, even though it was way past midnight. I decided to walk a bit downtown. So I made a right instead of walking straight on. 

After a few meters, I saw a bicycle, laying in the middle of the road. As I walked closer, I saw a woman laying next to the bike. And that was when my autopilot took over I guess. I called 911, and since I took a first aid course for a few weeks shortly before that happened, I still knew exactly what to do. I was checking if the woman was still breathing, checking her pulse, her throat to see if she threw up or anything.

People walked past me and made stupid comments instead of asking if I needed any help... After I checked everything, I knew I had to start performing CPR. And even then, none of the people walking past us offered their help.

After a couple of minutes, a man finally stopped and took over doing the CPR. I was sweating and tired and my arms already hurt. Then FINALLY the ambulance and police arrived. The paramedics took care of the lady, and the police started asking me what happened....

After I told them everything, they were getting ready to leave. But the lady´s bicycle was still laying there in the middle of the road! So I asked them to please take the bike so nobody would steal it during the night. I didn´t know how the lady was doing, but I knew as soon as she feels better again, she would be happy to get her bike back. So that´s what they did. 

And me? I finally walked home to my sister´s place. Yep, I walked. Nope, the police didn´t offer to give me a ride in the middle of the night.... 

At least they gave me a call a couple of days later, letting me know the lady made it and she´s doing ok again! 

Now you might think: What does all that have to do with the "Thankfulness Thursdays"? Seeing or being in situations like that, makes you realize that any minute, any day, it could be YOU laying there, somewhere between being dead or alive.

So today, and actually every day, I am thankful that God wakes me up in the morning, and is watching me during the days.

Thankfulness Thursday // Ready to leave

I will leave work early today, and go to the western part of Germany, where most of my family lives. My Grandpa´s funeral will be tomorrow. It´s gonna be a tough day, but I´m happy to see my family and spend some time with them.

M bought tons of candy for us, so we won´t be starving ;o)! He´s not gonna come, but saturday we´ll have a dinner date. I´m really looking forward to that! 

You might have noticed the new blog design? So much is going on these days - too many thoughts kept me awake til midnight, and made me wake up way too early. So I got up around 4:30AM and started working on the new design.

Do you like it? I will have to change some things here and there, but I´m really happy the way it looks now!
It´s more "Me", if you know what I mean :o)

This week I´m thankful for the support of my church family! Their words and prayers were very encouraging during the past days!

I´m thankful for my family! Especially my little nephews, who make me laugh even if I´m so sad, I should actually be crying ;o)!

I´m thankful to be healthy! 

I´m thankful to have M by my side, and that he´s getting more wonderful every day!

I´m thankful for the blue sky above me, and the perfect flip flop weather we FINALLY have over here :o)
