If I can do it, You can do it! // Smoke Free for 950 days

Hands up: How many of you put "Quit Smoking" on their New Year's Resolution list? If you are sitting in front of your device right now with one hand in the air, please continue reading. If you are curious, keep reading as well.

As of today, I am smoke free for 950 days. I started smoking when I was 15. I quit every once in a while, but the last time I quit seems to be the most successful. D'oh. Obviously.

I remember the day I quit smoking EXACTLY, as if it was yesterday. It was a MONDAY MORNING (what was I thinking), and my boss was about to leave for a 2 week business trip... What meant: me being alone and taking care of everything while he is away. Again: WHAT WAS I THINKING?!

Well, we all know smoking is bad. It is one of the worst things you can do to your body. It stinks. It's freaking expensive. Eventually it will kill you.

Then again, it can be really relaxing... No it's not. It raises your heart rate. So stop thinking like that! Yes, this was a trap.

I've had a whole bunch of reasons to quit. The main reason was, that it just didn't really fit into my healthy lifestyle anymore at all. Stepping out of the gym after a workout, lighting a cig right away? Yea... No...

So how did I make it through these 950 days? Willpower. Willpower. Willpower. Every day is a struggle. Face it, if you smoke, you are a junkie. A drug addict. No sugarcoating! I still have days where I just sit at my desk, craving a cigarette.

What helped me besides will power, was this app:

to get to the app store!

This was a good motivator. But an app alone didn't do the trick. Yes, I'm going to play the junkie card again! To me, addiction is addiction. If you smoke, drink, or shoot H. If you have to have it, you are addicted. I started watching DJ AM's (may he rest in peace) "Gone Too Far". All the time.

After I ran out of episodes (DJ AM passed away while filming this MTV show), I started binge watching "Intervention".

You might not have to steal from your family and friends to feed your addiction. But face it: you are just as junkie as they are. So I watched these shows, over and over again, and kept telling myself "I'm smarter than him. I'm smarter than her. I am stronger than this freaking addiction."

And watching one or 2 episodes of either show still helps me today. If I feel the urge, I grab my phone and watch them on YouTube.

I agree, this might be a very unconventional way to quit. But hey, it worked for me. Maybe it will work for you, too?

Are you enjoying your weekend?

Happy Saturday!

I hope you guys are enjoying your weekends?

I am sitting at our new dining room table typing this. You can't even imagine how happy I am to finally have a place to sit down and do stuff. I found it at a yard sale group on Facebook for a greal deal! And they were so nice and even delivered it to our house this morning, since we don't have a truck.

This is a picture of the dining room set (bad one - off Facebook)
The couch is fine, but after a while it is just messing up my back. Our household goods are scheduled to arrive in New York on 9th of April. Hopefully the whole customs process will go smooth. FYI: The car still didn't make it to us yet.... I am really mad.

Since I don't work, I have pretty "adventurous" days so far. I walk around El Dorado a lot - which is a real adventure already, because sidewalks either don't exist, or are death traps...
The city is lovely though! I already have a favorite coffee spot: PJ's!

Oh and I sure love the fact, that the Stadium is so close to our house! I go there a lot to run,/work out to loose some of my 40 extra pounds I feel I gained since quitting smoking 10 months ago. Also I have to train for my 5k run in Little Rock on Memorial Day weekend!!

It feels as if I'm in the worst shape ever... But I am fighting! And as soon as our stuff gets here, I will have all my Jillian Michaels DVDs, dum bells, and all the other workout stuff. Jillian makes it so much easier for me to get in shape...

I hope you are doing great!

Have a lovely weekend!

Smoke-Free: Day 3!

Hey there lovely readers!

So here I am, I made it to day 3 of my new life as a recovering-smokeaholic. Smoke free, and patch free. Yep! So here's how I felt so far:

Day 1

I can't remember much to be honest. Where my brain used to be, there only seemed to be a hot dog bun. That's how I felt. Chewing gum aaaaaaall day. Plus wearing this "medium" patch. Didn't sleep good at all, didn't work out that day, and I was hungry. HUNGRY! In the morning I would have had a corn dog if one was around. Oh and cocktails! I was daydreaming of Margaritas! Geeeeeeez... Drug withdrawal is tough indeed.

Feeling: Blah and dumb.
Gums: 25(?)
Patch: Yes
Food: A lot. Of crap.
Workout: Nope.

Day 2

I was so tired after waking up every 20 mins that night.Work was stressful as heck. I am all alone at the office right now, but I've somehow managed it to finish everything around 5:15PM. Went home, changed into workout gear right away, and did "Extreme Shred & Shed" with Jillian Michaels. I did the warm up and Level 2, but had to stop 5 minutes early though, cause I had to head over to my sister's to babysit my nephew. I removed the patch in the afternoon since I didn't feel it was doing any good; besides it started to itch. I think I was keeping up petty good that day! Plus I had some good night's sleep! (blame it on the no-more-patch)

Feeling: Tired but not like a junkie on cold turkey anymore.
Gums: 2
Patch: 4 hours, then ripped it off for good!
Food: Healthy breakfast, ice cream for lunch, and Lasagne and stuffed bell peppers for dinner.
Workout: "Extreme Shed & Shred", Level 2.

Day 3

Almost half way through day 3 now, and I'm feeling better and better! Almost nocraving for cigarettes. I can even smell it when someone walks past my office window smoking a cigarette and it BOTHERS me :oD
I'm looking forward to get off, so I can have a phone date with hubs, another workout with Jillian, roasted veggies and goat cheese for dinner... Feeling good!

Feeling: Awesome!
Gums: 2
Patch: -
Food: Healthy breakfast, ice cream and peaches for lunch. And tons of water!
Workout: Meeting Jillian later, so it will be "Extreme Shed & Shred" again!
