NOLA Honeymoon // Bourbon Street

Bourbon Street must be one of the most famous spots in New Orleans, hence, the USA. There are dishes named after it, songs about it... There is a lot of history, but sadly the most known part about it is the party people and Mardi Gras parade.

Maybe it is because I am from Europe and have been to and seen several red light districts (I even lived not even 1 block away from one) - but I really didn't like Bourbon Street. It smelled super nasty, the clubs and bars looked not inviting at all.

Yes, there is a difference between a strip club and
a strip club. Or a bar and a bar. Some are classy, some are not. And 90% of the stuff you find on Bourbon Street is just for people who want to go buck wild. As if there is no tomorrow. Or Facebook and its revealing posts.

For me it felt a little like Mallorca in the USA. FYI: Some spots on the wonderful island of Mallorca are the #1 lowbrow party spot for all Europeans. Especially the "Balneario NÂș 6". Wanna see what's going on there? Check this out:

Sorry, it's in German. But just look at the video and you know what's up.

But back to Bourbon Street. Don't get me wrong, the architecture is amazing! And if you dig into the history of New Orleans, you will find out Bourbon Street has been a very special place to have fun throughout the history of the city.

I was just a little disappointed when we first arrived there. I was picturing Bourlesque, charme, class. But it really just is a nasty little strip, smelling like puke, pee and alcohol. Even the daily street cleaning car doesn't help... For me, this photo I took pretty much sums the whole Bourbon Street thing up for me:

Have you ever been to New Orleans? Did you like Bourbon Street?

  3. I love Bourbon Street! If only it were in Houston, my life would be complete. I mean...my life is pretty complete as is, but Houston on the other hand could use a Bourbon Street. Maybe two, since Houston sprawls so. :-)
